Which survival kit do we recommend? Be careful, the answer hurts. None!
The survival and bushcraft industry has now grown into a billion dollar business. The whole thing has gone from niche to mainstream. As a result, the quality suffers and, as we repeatedly notice, the usefulness of the products.
Items are duplicated and do not require redundancy
Poor quality, disposable items
Outdoor items without any sense of a survival set.
Here is our analysis of the common survival kits.
What is a Survival Kit?
First of all, we see survival kits as a small, handy set that you have with you on tours and outdoor activities. It has to be easy to handle and if you get into an emergency situation, products and tools have to be usable.

At first glance there is a lot. Let's go through things.

Article | Description |
Multitool Axe | Nice multi-tool. But the axe is too small. You can also do this with a knife. Pliers ok, remaining functions nice. Firesteel ok. The tool itself has mixed reviews. |
Folding spade | Unnecessary. Saw is not practical and with a few hits on roots or hard ground the point of breakage is the joint. Pointless. |
Compass | Nicely meant but poor quality. Even in our own product video, the compass works mediocre in comparison. |
Waterfilter | Yes. He is good. Nothing to complain about. |
Flashlight | We have 3 of this model at home. They are good, but very vulnerable after a fall. Where are the spare batteries? But let's give it an okay. |
Multicard | Pointless. I have bottle openers, tools and can openers in the great Axe multitool. |
Survival bracelet | Nonsense. Paracord included in the set, mini compass pointless. Whistle is ok. Why? |
Firesteel set | Pointless redundancy. There is a fire steel in the multi-tool. The survival bracelet contains a mini fire steel. Then it's better to use storm matches. The third time the function is there. Away with it. |
Bottle holder clip. | We imagine a common survival situation and then this gimmick. Pointless |
Knife with spoon | Why not a spork? I can cut butter with a knife. Not more. Spoon ok. Fork function ok. |
Tactical Pen | Pointless. Where is paper? If so, it should be ready to hand in my EDC. |
Knife | This looks like it's ok. I mean it only has to last a few days. Makes sense to me. Unfortunately black. If you lose it in the forest, hard to find. |
15m Paracord | Yes. Take along. In conjunction with the rescue blanket, I can build an emergency tarp. |
2x Carbine | Why? What should I have to fix where? |
Whistle | Also included in the multitool. |
First Aid set | Absolutely right. Only the plastic tweezers are of no added value. Why 2x scissors? Get rid of the orange scissors. Garbage. |
2x Glow sticks | Good. Let's take it with us. |
Wire saw | Garbage. This cheap model cuts through small branches. Why do I have an ax in the set? Saw on folding spade. |
Tinder | Good. Add a lighter and you're done. All right. |
Blow pipe | Really? Luxury items for making a fire. Away with it. |
Emergency tent | Correct. Belongs in the set for us. It's all ok. |
Fishing set | Ok. Take it. |
Molle bag | Ok. But as a Stealth Prepper it is a “no go”. |
All in all, too many pointless, poor quality articles. Unnecessary duplication of skills. Do not get me wrong. I'm a fan of sensible redundancies. But not like this.

BCB Adventure Survival Essentials Kit
Looks a little different too. Great, you have my attention. Unfortunately not for very long.

shoelaces | This is supposed to replace paracord? I can't make small ropes out of them. impudence. |
Mini light | Quite nice in complete darkness. Unfortunately there is no locking function and how do I change the battery? Exactly not at all. |
Sewing kit | Why? |
Minitool | I've already seen it in the Ultra Mini Set. Yes, nice. |
Emergency blanket | Fine. That makes sense. |
Storm matches | Good. Belongs in a survival set. |
Wire saw | Not good quality. Pointless. Where is the important knife in the set? |
Firesteel | Good idea. Take along. Please see the compass in the handle as a logo. These things simply have no function. |
Tealight and cotton wool | Fine. In combination with the matches, it makes perfect sense. |
Fishing set with nylon | We don't know this set yet. But an OK |
Position mirror | Can be done, does not have to be. It is okay for me |
Whistle | Classic model. Ok. |
Duct tape | You can always use it. But the set lacks basic skills. |
Mini DryBag | I find it good and handy. Absolutely fine for everyone else. For stealth preppers, the label is nothing and the color is off the set. |
We expect more for the money. I don't want to be exposed to nature with the set. What about the topic of water? Not even sterilization tablets made it into the set. For us, a decent knife would be the most important tool in nature. Not recommended and almost negligent for beginners. The shoelaces make us shake our heads the most

A slightly different composition. Does it make sence?

Emergency tent | Very good idear. |
Herrings and clamps | Really? Have you ever set up an emergency tent? I'm definitely not going to touch the film with the clamps. And the herrings are supposed to do what? But don't untie the tent, right? So it's unique, but why don't the others have something like this in their set? Right because it's stupid. |
Paracord | Fine. Take with you |
Bottle holder | There he is again. From our point of view, it's simply an outdoor item to add an item to the set. Senseless. |
2x Glow sticks | Fine. We take it. |
2x Carabine | What should be moored where? Pointless |
Folding spade | Nice but pointless. The saw doesn't work well either. |
Cutlery set | What can we say. Can opener is on the multitool and knife. A spork would make more sense. |
Flashlight | Cheap model that was immediately defective when we fell. |
Knife | Fine. The linchpin in a survival situation. So without knowing the quality, absolutely OK. |
Multitool Axe | The ax is for branches. Cheap quality and there are not even two nails in the set. Should I crack nuts with a hammer? Pointless |
Waterfilter | Very good. An important element. |
Firesteel | Yes. But that's the only tool for making fire? Good for redundancy for me. Just add a lighter and you're done |
First Aid set | Is good. Plastic tweezers are trash and one of the two scissors can also go in the trash. |
Gloves | OK. Why not. But first we would add other items into the set. It is better to invest the purchase price for the gloves in more important items.Whistle with compass and thermometer |
Whistle | Whistle is good. The rest is just a gimmick with no functionality. |
Compass | Very poor quality. |
Rain poncho (one use) | Fine. Very good article |
rescue blanket | Absolutely makes sense here too |
Tinder | Ok. Take it. |
Molle bag | The bags are good. Quality is also absolutely sufficient. |
At the beginning we asked whether this set made sense. Is it? No. Even with the set, we don't want to be exposed to nature. Rain poncho, emergency tent, emergency blanket, knife and water filter are good. The rest probably not. But the fabric clamps and pegs really put the crown on the set. Not recommended by us.
These three sets represent countless sets. We think this was put together by people who have never used these things. What can we recommend in this price range? Nothing.
It's easy to just complain. For this reason and because of the lack of a sensible alternative, we decided to put together our own set for survival beginners. Be excited.
